Reclassification and New Position Requests

Then, complete and submit a Reclassification Request Form on the HCC Faculty & Staff Intranet with the complete PIQ attached.

Body

College positions are classified to facilitate organizational structure, position control, and salary management. Proper classification assists in maintaining internal equity related to the overall responsibility and scope of a job and placement in an appropriate salary level as defined in the Salary Schedule.

If you are recruiting for a vacant position and find new and significantly different responsibilities are needed to meet department goals a reclassification may be needed. If department needs have changed and significant changes in duties and responsibilities are needed for an existing position, a reclassification request may also be appropriate.

  • If you believe reclassification is appropriate, first reach out to HR Classification & Compensation to discuss the situation and request a Position Information Questionnaire (PIQ). Then, complete and submit a Reclassification Request Form on the HCC Faculty & Staff Intranet with the complete PIQ attached. Explain the functions, tasks, and requirements of the position clearly, so that any external reviewer can easily understand the position. Provide a detailed justification. HR Classification & Compensation, will review and notify the manager whether to proceed with the reclassification process in Workday.

  • If approved, no paper is needed to submit a reclassification request. Depending on the nature of the reclassification, you may need to work with the HCC budget office to transfer funds. Then, you will follow the Change Job (incumbent) or Edit Position Restriction (vacant) process in Workday to both move the incumbent (if applicable) and reclassify the position. Depending on the nature of the reclassification, HR may be able to assist in starting the process in Workday.
